Arsenal have completed the signing of Ecuadorian defender Piero Hincapié on a season-long loan from Bayer Leverkusen, with an option to make the deal permanent next summer for £45 million.
The 23-year-old centre-back, who can also operate at left-back, joins the Gunners after helping Leverkusen secure the Bundesliga title in the 2023/24 season. He has made over 100 appearances for the German club since 2021.
Manager Mikel Arteta hailed Hincapié’s “physical presence and versatility,” noting that his arrival will add depth and competition to Arsenal’s backline. The defender will wear the number 5 jersey and is expected to link up with his new teammates after international duty with Ecuador.
Hincapié becomes Arsenal’s eighth signing of the summer, with his arrival coinciding with Jakub Kiwior’s loan move to FC Porto.
