CARRICK CALLS FOR HUMILITY AFTER MAN U VICTORY

Manchester United’s interim head coach has exhibited a calm and grounded tone after guiding his side to a thrilling 3–2 victory over Premier League leaders Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, a result that follows last weekend’s 2–0 win over Manchester City.

As United supporters rocked north London with celebrations — even breaking into chants of “We’re gonna win the league” — Carrick appeared poised, insisting that perspective and humility must anchor the club’s sudden resurgence.

“I’m not getting carried away,” Carrick told reporters. “We’ve got some big games, bigger games, coming up, because every next game is the bigger game.

“So we’re not getting carried away. We’ve got really important things coming up that we need to keep improving with.

“But there’s a lot of emotion, a lot of energy and a lot of confidence that you can take from that [beating City and Arsenal], but be humble and understand how we’ve got these results. That’s really important moving forward.”

United’s win — which is their first league victory away to Arsenal since December 2017 — was sealed by goals from Bryan Mbeumo, Patrick Dorgu and a stunning late strike from Matheus Cunha. It came despite United sitting 12 points behind the Gunners and having only 15 Premier League matches remaining in a season where they are already out of both domestic cup competitions.

When asked of his plans to stick with the Red Devils as their permanent coach, Carrick shied away from any guarantees — opting to live one game at a time.

“What happens next [manager position] I’m not going to be answering it every week,” he said. “I’m enjoying it and I’ll continue to do what I can.”

“Looking too far ahead can come back and bite you,” he said. “We’ve taken this week by week, game by game and we’ll certainly continue to do that… but it’s a clear focus.

"Everything is in front of us now, it’s a good start, but we’ve just got to keep building.”

Carrick’s men elicited confidence and composure, scoring from all three shots on target and defying their expected goals tally. Their tactical discipline — a compact shape, swift transitions and confidence in possession — contrasted sharply with Arsenal’s growing tension as the game wore on.

When asked on what had shifted since Carrick’s entrance, goalkeeper Senne Lammens dismissed the idea of radical changes, pointing instead to simplicity and belief.

“I’ve got to be honest, there’s not many special things he did,” Lammens said. “It’s just sticking to the basics.
“We have players with the quality that can make a difference, but you just have to do the basics right… He made it really clear what he wants from us and what he expects from us.
“Against Arsenal, on the pitch sometimes it didn’t really come out, but if you fight as a team and keep believing in it, then you can still get the win.”

Manchester United’s sudden rebirth has been attributed to Carrick’s 4-2-3-1 formation, which provides defensive structure while enabling coordinated pressing and quick transitions going forward. Despite the optimism, the former Manchester United midfielder has maintained that it remains important to focus on tougher tests still ahead, starting with Fulham’s visit to Old Trafford next weekend.
