New CCTV footage released by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has shed light on the final movements of prominent Nairobi lawyer Kyalo Mbobu before he was assassinated on Tuesday September 9, 2025, evening.
The footage tracks Mbobu from his office to Sagret Hotel along Milimani Road on September 9, where he arrived between 11:00 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. for a meeting. He later shared lunch with individuals now listed as persons of interest in the investigation.
According to investigators, the lawyer returned to his townhouse office around 1:45 p.m. before leaving again at about 5:00 p.m. to head to his Karen residence. His route is documented as Wabera Street, City Hall Way, Parliament Road, Uhuru Highway, Nyayo Roundabout, Lang’ata Road, and eventually Magadi Road, where he was intercepted by gunmen.
The assailants, believed to have trailed him from the city, fatally shot Mbobu just minutes before he arrived home. His killing has sparked outrage within the legal fraternity and beyond, with the Law Society of Kenya and senior political leaders calling for swift justice.
The DCI says homicide detectives and forensic experts are piecing together evidence from the National Forensic Laboratory to identify the suspects. Meanwhile, Mbobu’s family, led by his brother James Maluki, has demanded a thorough investigation, insisting that those behind the assassination must be brought to book.
