COURT ORDERS PRE-BAIL REPORT IN COMPUTER FRAUD CASE AGAINST BRIAN RONO

A Nairobi court has ordered the preparation of a pre-bail report in the case of Brian Rono, who is facing computer fraud charges linked to the ongoing investigation into the murder of blogger Albert Ojwang.
Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Carolyne Mugo issued the directive after the prosecution sought three days to compile the report, which will assess Rono’s suitability for bail. The report will be prepared by probation officers and is expected to guide the court in determining whether to release him on bond.
Rono is accused of tampering with the mobile phone of former Central Police Station OCS Samson Talaam in a bid to obstruct forensic investigations into Ojwang’s killing. He denied the charges, told the court he intends to apply for bond, and pledged to attend all hearings if granted bail.
He also requested a medical check-up, citing his asthma condition, and claimed his phone was confiscated during his arrest. The matter will be mentioned on August 19, when the investigating officer is expected to explain the circumstances surrounding the seizure of phones.
