DCI ISSUES UPDATE ON SHOOTING OF CITY LAWYER KYALO MBOBU

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched a full-scale probe into the fatal shooting of Nairobi lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu, who was gunned down on Tuesday evening along Magadi Road in the Karen area.
In a statement on Wednesday September10, 2025, the DCI confirmed that a team led by the Nairobi Regional Criminal Investigations Officer rushed to the scene immediately after the incident. Forensic experts from the Homicide Bureau and the National Forensic Laboratory combed the area for evidence as part of the ongoing inquiry.
“The Directorate is committed to ensuring justice for the late Advocate Mbobu. We appeal to members of the public with any information to come forward,” the statement read. The public has been urged to share tips through police stations, the toll-free line 0800 722 203, or via WhatsApp.
Mbobu was ambushed in traffic near the Galleria Mall when two assailants on a motorcycle shattered his windshield and fired multiple rounds, killing him instantly.
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) condemned the killing, describing it as a “pre-meditated assassination.” LSK President Faith Odhiambo urged the DCI to conduct an “all-hands-on-deck” investigation to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, who was once mentored by Mbobu, expressed his shock at the murder and called on the National Police Service to act swiftly to uncover the motive behind the attack.
Mbobu, a respected advocate and former chair of the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal, is remembered for his contribution to legal scholarship and mentorship.
The DCI has assured that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
