DEATH TOLL IN KILIFI'S KWA BINZARO RISES TO 32 WITH 7 MORE BODIES EXHUMED

The death toll in Kilifi’s Kwa Binzaro village has risen to 32 after detectives exhumed seven more bodies from shallow graves in a thicket believed to be used by a new religious cult. In addition, officers recovered 54 human body parts scattered in the forest, raising fears that many more victims may still be buried in the area.
Government pathologist Dr Richard Njoroge, who supervised the exhumation, said the bodies were relatively fresh compared to those found last week. He noted that some appeared to have been buried only a few weeks ago, suggesting the killings are recent.
"We have noted that at this particular site, the bodies look a bit fresh. They are not fully skeletonised and like last week. The bodies we exhumed last week were full skeletons with no flesh. But the bodies we found here look to have been buried a few months or weeks ago," said Njoroge.
Three of the bodies were found piled inside one grave, detectives revealed that tree trunks had been placed on top of them before soil was loosely spread, making the graves shallow enough for wild animals to dig up the remains. Njoroge added that the 54 body parts collected, mostly ribs and hands, will be taken for DNA analysis to help identify victims.
The scattered bones are believed to have been dragged away by animals after digging up the graves. During the search, officers also found a mobile SIM card in a hut near the graves, which they believe could help trace individuals linked to the cult. Human rights defender Walid Sketty from Vocal Africa called for urgent state intervention, stating that the group might still be active.
