Two suspects linked to the theft of electricity infrastructure in Kisumu County's Manyatta Kona Maji have been arrested.
Stephen Bala Magak and Frederick Odhiambo Owino are said to have obtained stolen energy infrastructure from the vandals in the neighborhood and sold it to those who illegally tap electricity.
The recovered equipment, valued at Ksh.3 million, according to Kenya Power included six steady bars, one cross arm, three rolls of stay wire which was about 100 metres, 146 shackle insulators and about 20 metres of HT aluminium conductors and 23 rolls of LV aluminium conductors of about 1,000 metres, among others.
The two suspects are already in custody… We urge members of the public to help us report and guard the same infrastructure that fuels their businesses and livelihoods," the manager of security services at the electricity utility, Geoffrey Kigen, said in a statement on Tuesday.
Kigen clarified that the Western Kenya region and Kisumu county have been experiencing power challenges, some of which are caused by vandalism and, in others, illegal connections.
