Equity Bank Kenya has issued a public notice announcing a temporary disruption affecting bank-to-mobile wallet transactions. In a statement released on Friday, August 22, the bank acknowledged a technical issue impacting its mobile money services and assured customers that its technical team is actively working to resolve the problem. “We are currently experiencing a service interruption affecting bank-to-mobile wallet transactions. Please bear with us as our technical team works to restore services. We apologize for the inconvenience,” the notice read.
Amid the disruption, Equity Bank has urged customers to remain vigilant and avoid falling prey to fraudsters who may exploit the situation. The bank reminded users that it communicates only through its official contact number—0763 000 000—and emphasized that it never asks for confidential banking information via phone calls or SMS. “Do not engage with anyone requesting your personal banking details. Equity will never ask for your PIN, password, OTP, or card information over the phone or via text,” the bank cautioned.
Equity Bank supports bank-to-mobile wallet transfers through a variety of digital platforms, including the Equity Mobile App, Equitel, and international money transfer services like Sendwave, Remitly, and Small World. These services allow users to send money both locally and internationally by registering through the appropriate apps and providing the necessary KYC and recipient details.
The Equity Mobile App offers a comprehensive range of digital banking services. Customers can open bank accounts, self-register for mobile banking, manage personal finances, view and download account statements, and make real-time money transfers to other banks or mobile wallets such as M-Pesa, Airtel Money, and T-Kash.
