A boda boda rider was fatally injured on Wednesday morning in an accident at Kagio town on the Sagana–Kutus road in Kirinyaga County.
The rider, according to witnesses, was headed to Kutus when he lost control of his motorbike and rolled several times as he attempted to avoid a lorry coming from the other side.
By Kagio resident Julius Waweru, the driver's bid to swerve from the lorry resulted in the deadly accident.
Residents and traders complained of speeding along the busy road stretch, particularly as work on the new Kagio market proceeds.
"Road traffic regulations should be something drivers should be looking out for because traders are just along the road. The accident has once again highlighted the dangers brought about by reckless driving," said resident Peter Magondu.
Sagana Traffic Police officers visited the scene and took the body to Kerugoya Hospital Mortuary.
It is rather unfortunate that the accident took place just near Kagio Police Station. The lone rider was from Mung'ang'a village. We are still concerned about increasing cases of boda boda accidents and fatalities," said taxi operator Julius Waweru.
