FIVE ARRESTED OVER ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF KPLC EQUIPMENTS

Five suspects have been arrested for being in illegal possession of critical Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) equipment, in an ongoing crackdown on vandalism and power infrastructure theft.
According to authorities, the suspects were found with power cables and other electrical components believed to be property of KPLC. The arrests followed a coordinated operation by law enforcement agencies, who acted on intelligence reports about a suspected syndicate dealing in stolen utility equipment.
KPLC officials confirmed that the recovered items are part of the company's infrastructure used in electricity distribution. Investigations are ongoing to establish the origin of the equipment and determine whether the suspects are linked to a wider vandalism network that has been targeting transformers and underground power lines across various counties.
The Energy Act imposes heavy penalties on anyone found guilty of vandalizing or possessing utility infrastructure unlawfully. Kenya Power has urged members of the public to report any suspicious activity near power installations through the toll-free USSD code *977# or at the nearest police station.
The suspects are currently in police custody awaiting arraignment.
