FORMER ARSENAL MIDFIELDER THOMAS PARTEY GRANTED BAIL OVER RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT CHARGES

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been granted conditional bail after appearing before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on charges related to rape and sexual assault involving three women.

The 32-year-old Ghanaian footballer is facing five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, with the alleged offences reported to have occurred between 2021 and 2022. Partey has denied all charges.

During the brief court session held on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, Partey was not required to enter a plea but was asked if he understood the charges and bail conditions. The case has been transferred to the Old Bailey, where he is scheduled to appear again on September 2.

Partey was initially arrested in July 2022, though his identity was not made public at the time. He continued playing for Arsenal while investigations were ongoing. His contract with the club expired on June 30, making him a free agent.

In a statement, Partey’s lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire of Hickman and Rose, stated:

“Thomas Partey denies all the charges against him. He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three-year investigation. He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name.”

According to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS):

Two rape charges relate to one complainant

Three rape charges relate to a second complainant

One count of sexual assault involves a third complainant

Arsenal Football Club declined to comment, citing the ongoing legal proceedings.
