FORMER PRESIDENT MOI’S GRANDSON SENTENCED TO JAIL

Grandson to the late President Daniel Arap Moi, Collins Kibet, has been sentenced to jail for contempt of court after failing to comply with an order to enroll his two children in school. The court determined that Kibet had willfully ignored previous directives to take responsibility of the children’s education and general welfare, despite repeated warnings and ongoing legal proceedings. This decision follows a lengthy legal dispute in which Kibet was accused of neglecting his parental responsibilities. The children’s mother had raised concerns over their inability to attend school and Kibet’s failure to provide for them.

This latest development comes nearly a year after Kibet was sentenced to seven days in jail in September 2024 for disobeying child support orders involving the same children. Kibet had shown blatant disregard for court instructions concerning the children’s upkeep and education. Kibet had been apprehended in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County, after months of avoiding the court and was brought in to face the charges. His estranged wife, Gladys Jeruto Tagi, had taken legal action against him, accusing him of abandoning their children and failing to pay school fees at Mustard Seed International School.

Her lawyer, Elizabeth Wangari, informed the court that the children’s education had been disrupted, leading to emotional distress. In response, Kibet’s legal team claimed he was facing financial hardship and entangled in succession disputes involving the estates of his late father, Jonathan Moi, and grandfather Daniel Moi.
