GACHAGUA'S SECRET DEAL WITH RUTO ?

The United Opposition fallout is seemingly lurking after Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has accused former DP and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua of cutting a secret deal with his former boss, President William Ruto.

In an interview with a local TV on Monday, September 29, night, Kioni claimed that Gachagua has been working behind the scenes with the President in what he termed as a plan to deceive Kenyans ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to Kioni, the revelations came during a meeting Gachagua reportedly held with leaders in Narok County around September 17, 2025. The gathering, he said, was meant to explain why DCP denied Joshua Ole Kaputa a baton to contest in the Narok Township Ward by-election.

“On 17th of September 2025. Gachagua told one Dr. Joshua from Narok Town that ‘unajua mimi niko na Kenya kwa mikono yangu’. Joshua wanted a DCP certificate to run for MCA elections. He was actually the preferred candidate but he was told the certificate does not belong to him but someone else,” Kioni said.

This loosely translates as; On September 17, 2025, Gachagua reportedly told Dr. Joshua from Narok Town, “You know I have Kenya in my hands.”

He went further, alleging that Gachagua openly disclosed his arrangement with the President.

“Gachagua then told them that he had received emissaries from William Ruto na ameniambia, ‘wewe kusanya watu wako na mimi nisanye watu wangu. Tutakutana na tugawe hii keki’. So he told Joshua to relax and he will nominate him,” Kioni added. - ‘You mobilize your people and I’ll mobilize mine. We’ll meet and share this cake.’

Kioni clarified that Jubilee remains part of the “United Opposition,” though only in an informal sense, further expressing his dissatisfaction with Kalonzo's association with the former opposition pact, Azimio.

“We are part of the United Opposition in their informal way, because for now it is not a formal grouping. There is no legal document that is binding us. We just heard Kalonzo Musyoka saying technically he is in Azimio Coalition,” he explained.

Echoing the remarks of Former President Uhuru Kenyatta during the Friday,26 Jubilee NDC, Kioni affirmed that the party will continue to collaborate with other like-minded political outfits, all with the shared objective of presenting the best candidate to oust President Ruto.

Aside from stirring the political waters, Kioni's remarks undescores tragic trust and loyalty issues among the opposition heads. With this continuing the fallout may just be imminent, for how long will this shaken fabric hold the pact ?
