GOVERNMENT TO CONDUCT SURVEY ON HOW KENYANS SEND AND RECEIVE MONEY ABROAD

The Kenyan government has announced plans to conduct a nationwide survey to assess how citizens send and receive money across international borders. The study aims to gather data on the cost, reliability, and accessibility of cross-border money transfer services.
According to officials from the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), the initiative seeks to improve remittance services, enhance financial inclusion, and inform policy decisions that benefit Kenyans living and working abroad. The survey will target both individuals and businesses involved in international transactions.
Remittances are a major source of foreign exchange for Kenya, with billions of shillings flowing into the country annually from the diaspora. However, concerns have been raised about high transaction fees, delays, and limited access in rural areas.
The CBK has urged Kenyans to participate in the survey when it begins in the coming weeks, emphasizing that their input will help shape reforms in the money transfer sector.
