Kiambu county governor Kimani Wamatangi was arrested on Tuesday 15th April 2025 over alleged graft.
Governor Wamatangi and nine other senior county officials had their homes raided by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Tuesday morning. The ongoing investigation into the 10 public officials is centered around allegations of mismanagement of funds in the county. The arrest came a year after Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah and his Thika Town counterpart Alice Ng’ang’a called for the arrest and investigation of Wamatangi.
Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa also raised red flags in February 2024 when he revealed a change from an automated system to a manual one under the guise of technical issues.
According to Senator Thang’wa, this transition created an opportunity for fraud, allowing for the theft of an estimated Sh390 million through the inclusion of ghost workers on the payroll.
"I urge the EACC to act swiftly and decisively in halting this plunder of public resources and bringing those responsible to justice." Said Senator Thang'wa.
