HEALTH PS MUTHONI WARNS LOCAL HOSPITALS AGAINST CHARGING OUTPATIENT SERVICES

Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni has issued a stern warning to Level 2, 3, and 4 hospitals against charging patients for outpatient services, stressing that such fees are already covered by the government.
Speaking on Sunday August 10, 2025, Muthoni reiterated that the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) program caters for these services in public health facilities and warned that any hospital found contravening the directive will face disciplinary action.
“The government is fully funding outpatient services in these facilities. Patients should not be asked to pay for what has already been provided for,” she said.
She urged county health authorities to ensure compliance and called on members of the public to report any cases of illegal charges.
