IRA DEREGISTERS 20 INSURANCE BROKERS OVER REGULATORY NON-COMPLIANCE

The Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) has deregistered 20 insurance brokerage firms in Kenya for failing to meet regulatory requirements. In a notice published on July 18, 2025, the authority stated that the cancellations were done in line with Section 196(A) of the Insurance Act (Cap. 487).

According to the statement, the affected firms are no longer authorised to carry out insurance business with effect from June 30, 2025. However, the IRA did not provide the specific grounds for the licence revocations.

The move is part of the IRA’s ongoing efforts to enforce compliance, protect policyholders, and maintain confidence in the insurance sector. The regulator periodically reviews the operations of licensed intermediaries and has taken similar actions in the past.
