IRONY AS MPS POCKET ALLOWANCES TO INSPECT MUD-WALLED POLICE STATIONS

Members of Parliament on the Parliamentary Committee on Administration and Internal Security have drawn sitting allowances to tour police stations in Nandi County—only to find many of them in shocking disrepair.
During the September 17 inspection, the legislators found officers operating from mud-walled houses and iron-sheet shacks. In Chesumei sub-county, the Officer Commanding Police Division has no formal office, while the Directorate of Criminal Investigations operates from a tiny iron-sheet structure. In Tinderet, officers live and work in mud houses.
The MPs said the visits were meant to highlight the dire conditions and promised to push the Interior Ministry and county leaders for urgent funding. They will compile a list of the most affected stations for renovation or rebuilding.
The spectacle of lawmakers earning allowances to inspect such run-down facilities has sparked debate, with critics calling it a bitter irony and urging faster government action to improve police infrastructure.
