ISRAEL’S AMBASSADOR TO KENYA, MICHAEL LOTEM ANNOUNCES EXIT AFTER COMPLETING HIS TENURE

Israel’s Ambassador to Kenya, Michael Lotem, has officially concluded his tenure, marking the end of his diplomatic mission in the region. In a statement released on August 14, 2025, Ambassador Lotem reflected on his time in office with heartfelt appreciation, emphasizing the relationships, experiences, and partnerships he built over the years. “As I conclude my tenure as Israel’s Ambassador to Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, and Seychelles, I do so with deep gratitude and a full heart. Serving this remarkable region has been both a privilege and a profound journey,” he stated. He described his diplomatic mission as a meaningful experience marked by learning, purpose, and shared successes.

 Lotem expressed his gratitude to the many individuals who supported him, noting that these connections were instrumental in fostering strong bilateral ties. In his farewell message, he acknowledged not only the professional milestone achieved but the personal memories and friendships that will remain with him beyond his official duties. Lotem also spoke of the ongoing work in the region, calling it a source of inspiration and a reminder of the progress yet to be made. While his formal role may have ended, he emphasized that his connection to the region remains strong. “Thank you for your trust, your collaboration, and the many moments we have shared,” he concluded.

Ambassador Lotem’s diplomatic career began in 1993 in Swaziland. Over the past three decades, he has held several key positions focused on advancing trade and economic cooperation to strengthen bilateral relations. His past postings include Ambassador of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan (2005-2006), Ambassador to Azerbaijan (2009-2012), and Consul General in St. Petersburg, Russia (2014-2017). He also served as Special Envoy for Energy (2012-2014) and later as Head of the Economic Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, covering Asia and the CIS. His African mission began when he was appointed Ambassador to Kenya, with accreditation to Uganda and Malawi, and designation to Tanzania and Seychelles.
