Justin Muturi’s Security Detail Withdrawn Amid Political Tensions
Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has confirmed that his security detail was withdrawn on Monday night, raising questions about the motive behind the move.
Muturi, who also previously served as Speaker of the National Assembly, said the officers assigned to him were recalled without any official explanation.
> “The security team was withdrawn last night. I was not given any explanation as to why, but I suspect it is because of my political stance,” he told reporters.
He further revealed that his former security personnel were instructed not to report for duty on claims that he was "fighting the government."
While acknowledging that he is entitled to state-provided security, Muturi downplayed the development but criticized the manner in which it was done.
> “If the move was meant to intimidate me, it won’t. But it certainly goes against the spirit of constitutionalism,” he said.
Tensions between Muturi and President William Ruto have escalated in recent weeks, marked by public exchanges and accusations of corruption and incompetence.
> “I think William Ruto is actually unfit for the position of the President of the Republic of Kenya. I have sadly come to that conclusion,” Muturi said in a recent media interview, branding the President as “irredeemably corrupt.”
Under the Retirement Benefits (Deputy President and Designated State Officers) Act, 2015, Muturi is entitled to two armed security officers upon request, owing to his past role as Speaker.
