KENYA MOJA LEADERS DEMAND DUALE, MWANGANGI RESIGN OVER SHA SCANDAL

Leaders of the Kenya Moja movement have called for the resignation of Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale and Social Health Authority (SHA) CEO Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, accusing them of presiding over massive fraud within the country’s health insurance scheme.
Speaking during a press conference in Nairobi, the leaders claimed billions of shillings have been siphoned through fraudulent payments to “ghost” facilities, including hospitals that have long been closed. They cited the case of Sipili Maternity and Nursing Home, which allegedly received KSh 5 million despite being shut down after a media exposé.
The movement further accused Duale of a conflict of interest in SHA operations and claimed Mwangangi had failed to stop systematic looting of public funds.
In recent weeks, SHA has suspended 85 health facilities over alleged fraud. CS Duale disclosed that SHA is re-evaluating KSh 3 billion in claims due to missing documentation, KSh 2.1 billion remains under scrutiny, while KSh 10.6 billion in claims has already been rejected for falsified records, phantom billing, and other irregularities.
Meanwhile, the government has come under fire for pulling down SHA’s online payments portal and the Kenya Master Health Facility Registry, a move critics say is meant to conceal irregular transactions.
The scandal has sparked widespread public outrage, with Kenya Moja leaders insisting that only the immediate resignation of Duale and Mwangangi will restore accountability in the healthcare system.
