Kenya Power Announces Scheduled Outages Across Seven Counties

Kenya Power has announced a planned electricity outage across seven counties on Tuesday, citing the need for system maintenance. The affected counties include Nairobi, Nandi, Elgeyo Marakwet, Trans Nzoia, Kisumu, Kirinyaga, and Kiambu.

In a statement issued on Monday, Kenya Power explained that the outages, scheduled between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., are part of routine maintenance aimed at improving service delivery.

”We understand that power interruptions can be an inconvenience, but these scheduled outages are necessary to enhance the reliability and efficiency of our electricity supply,” said a Kenya Power spokesperson.

Residents and businesses in the affected areas have been advised to plan accordingly. Some Nairobi residents, particularly those in industrial and residential zones, have expressed concerns about the disruptions.

”A whole day without power means lost productivity for businesses like mine,” said James Ochieng, a shop owner in Nairobi’s Eastlands area. ”I wish they could do this at night when most businesses are closed.”

Similarly, in Kisumu, residents preparing for the upcoming Easter holiday have raised concerns.

”We rely on electricity for refrigeration, especially now when we are stocking up for the festivities. A day-long outage will be quite a challenge,” said Beatrice Awuor, a local vendor.

Despite the concerns, Kenya Power maintains that the maintenance work is crucial for long-term service improvement.

”We urge our customers to bear with us as we work to provide a more stable power supply in the future,” the spokesperson added.

The utility company has encouraged affected residents to stay updated through their official communication channels for any changes to the schedule.
