Marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge has said that his focus is entirely on doing well in the London Marathon set for April 27, as speculations continue to mount regarding his future in the track.
The two-time Olympic marathon champion will return to the familiar course for the first time in five years, and bids to win his fifth title in the British capital. Since the five-time Berlin marathon champion announced he will make a comeback, stakeholders and fans alike have been questioning Kipchoge's longevity in the 26.1-mile distance.
"I don’t like to mix some things. I learn to put all my mind on the road, put all my mind on making sure my muscles are lean and ready to combat the London streets. And the rest will come," said Kipchoge.
After failing to finish the Paris Olympic marathon and throwing in the towel after 32km owing to an injury, Kipchoge has embarked on thorough training in readiness to face a stacked field that has the likes of Olympic marathon champion and 2023 New York City marathon winner Tamirat Tola and defending champion Alexander Mutiso.
He now insists that he will only be persuaded to retire when he sees the whole world lacing up their trainers.
