KISII POLITICIAN BISHOP JOSIAH ONYANCHA AND WIFE DIE IN A ROAD ACCIDENT

A Kisii politician and his wife died in a road accident on Wednesday August 6 2025 evening. The politician, Bishop Josiah Onyancha, who contested the Kisii gubernatorial seat in 2022 as an independent candidate, died in a crash while traveling for their son’s graduation.
The couple was heading to Nairobi for their son, Edwin Nyarangi’s, graduation at Mount Kenya University when the accident occurred in Narok. The crash is reported to have been caused by a head-on collision.
Following his death, Kenyans have sent messages of condolence to the politician’s family.
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Communications Director Philip Etale said:
“My brother, friend, and colleague Edwin Nyarangi, words cannot express my sorrow for you following the tragic loss of your parents in a road accident. It is not easy for a child to lose a parent; it is even more heartbreaking to lose both at once. Bro, this is truly tragic and devastating. Take heart, bro. As your friend, I will stand with you during this difficult time.”
A family friend, Magati Bw’Obebo recalled the moments he encountered with the bishop.
“My heart goes out to the family and friends of Hon Rev Josiah Onyancha this morning. The Reverend who also vied for Kisii governorship, was father to my writing buddy Edwin Nyarangi of the Standard Newspaper in Nairobi . We often bumped often into each other with the good Reverend near the Toyota area, Menyinkwa where he has a residence.” said Magati.
