KITUI COUNTY PREPARES FOR MASHUJAA DAY CELEBRATIONS

The government is fast-tracking the construction of Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui town to ensure it is ready in time for next month’s Mashujaa Day celebrations. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki announced that the 10,000-seat stadium, which is being built at a cost of Ksh.700 million, is nearing completion and will be ready to host the national event. Designed to meet international standards, the facility is expected to host not only national tournaments but also international matches and other major events.

“The stadium is now 80 percent complete and will serve future generations in Kitui as a hub for sports and community activities,” the DP said on Tuesday during an inspection tour of the ongoing works. He urged the contractor to speed up construction without compromising quality.

This will be the first time Kitui County hosts a national celebration, and preparations have already spurred major upgrades in the region. The town is benefiting from improved road networks, expanded electricity and water supply, as well as the rehabilitation of Ithookwe Airstrip, which had been neglected for years.

The Deputy President, who also inspected the airstrip, emphasized its importance in facilitating the smooth arrival and departure of dignitaries and guests during the October 20 celebrations.
