KONZA TECHNOPOLIS APPROVED AS NATIONAL DRONE CORRIDOR FOR KENYA

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has approved the Konza National Drone Corridor, marking the country's first designated and controlled airspace exclusively for drone operations.
In a statement released on Wednesday, July 9, the Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA) confirmed the approval, noting that the corridor will support safe long-range drone flights, advancing the development of the country’s aviation sector and the use of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).
"This pioneering initiative establishes Kenya’s first controlled airspace specifically dedicated to Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone operations, marking a transformative milestone in the nation’s unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) ecosystem and solidifying its position as a leader in African technological advancement."
John Paul Okwiri, CEO of Konza Technopolis, described the approval as a significant step in Kenya’s journey toward establishing a strong unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) ecosystem, adding that it further cements the country’s rising reputation as a tech innovation hub in Africa.
“The establishment of this drone corridor within a smart city will spur significant economic growth by attracting investment, creating new opportunities and also firmly position Konza Technopolis as the premier destination for African tech talent and enterprise to thrive,” he said.
