LOSSES AS FIRE DESTROYS STALLS AT GIKOMBA

Stalls , properties and businesses were destroyed in the early hours of Tuesday, April 1, when a devastating fire razed through a section of Gikomba Market.

Media reports state that the fire broke out around 4 am spreading through the market, ravaging shops and stalls that were stocked with goods and other properties. It is indicated that this fire originated from the Southern part of the market near Muthurwa Primary School , Pumwani.

“We received a call at around 4 am that there was a fire. When we arrived at the scene, we couldn’t save anything,” a business owner lamented over the experience.

Moments later, firefighters from various units including KDF ( Kenya Defence forces)reached the scene, finding an already extensive damage.

This is not the first time, for example, in October 2021 and December 2024 , traders at the market counted losses after a fire tore down a section of the market.

However, the cause of the fire remains unknown.
