LSK TO HOLD NATIONWIDE PURPLE RIBBON MARCH OVER LAWYER MBOBU’S MURDER

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has announced that it will stage a Purple Ribbon March on Friday, September 12,2025, in protest against rising attacks on members of the legal profession, following the murder of prominent Nairobi lawyer Kyalo Mbobu. Mbobu was shot dead in a drive-by attack along Magadi Road on Tuesday evening. According to reports, gunmen on a motorbike targeted him at around 5:40 p.m., firing at his head before fleeing the scene.

In a statement on Wednesday, September 10, 2025,  LSK President Faith Odhiambo said the peaceful procession will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Milimani Law Courts, proceed along Kenyatta Avenue, and culminate at Vigilance House, where members will present a memorandum to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja. “In collaboration with our Branch Caucus, the Purple Ribbon March will be observed across all eight (8) LSK branches nationwide. We urge all members to attend, donning the purple ribbon as a sign of honour and solidarity,” the statement read.

Odhiambo further called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to speed up investigations, warning that unchecked insecurity poses a grave threat to the rule of law. “Our security agencies must act decisively to stop this menace. These levels of lawlessness put our nation at risk, and it is our constitutional duty to safeguard the country,” she said.

The LSK boss added that the march will not only honour Mbobu but also highlight the growing intimidation and violence against lawyers. “Advocates have repeatedly been targeted because of their work. This incident, like others before it, is a test of our justice system,” she noted.
