Presidential constitutional Senior Advisor Makau Mutua has said former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will not become the President of Kenya. In a public statement made on July 22, 2025, Mutua strongly criticized Gachagua’s conduct, alleging that his statements frequently go against the Constitution and the laws of the country.
“I can tell you this for free, Gachagua will never be the President of the Republic of Kenya. Everything he utters offends the Constitution and laws of the Republic. He’s a constitutional anathema. Those who harbor such a wild dream had better let go,” Mutua said.
The remarks were published by The Kenya Times and have since circulated widely on social media. Mutua, a long-time legal scholar and political advisor, did not provide specific examples but maintained that Gachagua’s public conduct disqualifies him from leadership at the highest level.
The statement comes at a time when political activity is gaining momentum ahead of the 2027 General Election. Gachagua, who has not yet officially declared his bid for the presidency, is seen by some as a key figure in succession politics.
As of now, there has been no official response from the former Deputy President or his team.
