A Nairobi family is mourning the sudden and mysterious death of 36-year-old Francis Inaweti, who collapsed and died on the altar of a church in Mukuru slums during a prayer session.
Francis had sought divine intervention at the Instant Miracle Gospel Ministry Church after developing unexplained body swellings and severe pain in the head and neck. According to his brother, Benson Inaweti, the health issues began shortly after a heated exchange with a female neighbour who allegedly cursed him, warning he had only three days to live.
Disturbingly, Francis died exactly three days later while undergoing what the family believed was a spiritual cleansing.
His sister, Winnie Inaweti, recalled how his condition worsened rapidly — first with swelling in one eye, followed by the other, then escalating pain in the neck and head. Desperate for help, the family turned to the church, hoping for healing. Instead, they left with a tragic loss.
The family insists that Francis was in good health before the incident with the neighbour and are now struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss.
News of his death sparked outrage in the local community. An angry mob descended on the woman’s residence and set her property ablaze. While no injuries were reported, police have launched investigations into the events surrounding the man’s death and the subsequent arson.
Francis’ body has been transferred to the Nairobi Funeral Home for autopsy as detectives probe possible foul play. Meanwhile, the church is yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
