MOSES WETANGULA CONTINUES FIGHT WITH THE JUDICIARY.

National Assembly Speaker , Moses Wetangula has filed an application challenging the contempt of court proceedings against him regarding the majority party in Parliament.
On February 12, 2025, Wetangula declared that Kenya Kwanza owns the majority whip in Parliament despite a High Court ruling which went vice-versa on that.

Wetangula's ruling, forced Kenneth Njagi among other activists to file a petition before the Milimani law court seeking to find Wetangula guilty of contempt of court and to sentence him for allegedly disrespecting the court's verdict.

In his court application, Wetangula maintained that he was never issued with any court order before the contempt proceedings were initiated, affirming that no decree was extracted or served to prove the proceedings worthy.

He furthered that no court order needed him to take or refrain from any action that could be enforced through contempt proceedings.

Moreover, Sandra Nganyi, National Assembly's lawyer, argued that it is out of the court's jurisdiction to hear and judge the application, since , the Speaker enjoys the rights from Article 117 of the constitution, shielding him from contempt proceedings and that such proceedings cannot be issued against him in his individual capacity for actions carried out in the exercise of his official functions .

Wetangula also petitioned the court to reconsider its February 7th, 2025, ruling.

In response to this, Justice Jairus Ngaa, Lawrence Mugambi, and John Chigiti have asked the parties to appear on July 17 for the highlighting of submissions.
