A dramatic clash has erupted in Kenya’s entertainment scene after Nairobi County official Geoffrey Mosiria challenged media personality and promoter Oga Obinna to a boxing match, escalating an already explosive dispute surrounding the controversial Vurugu Fight Night.
The clash follows last weekend’s high-profile bout at the Kasarani Indoor Arena, where Majembe defeated Mbavu Destroyer via a fourth-round technical knockout (TKO). The fight, which drew massive public attention and sponsorship backing, has since been overshadowed by allegations that its outcome may have been pre-arranged.
While the match was billed as a major moment for amateur boxing in Kenya, its dramatic ending quickly raised questions. Mbavu later claimed he had been struck below the belt—an illegal move in boxing—fueling debate among fans online.
The bout carried significant stakes, with Majembe walking away with a prize package reportedly worth over KSh 2.5 million, including cash rewards and a vehicle. The event also attracted high-profile goodwill support, including contributions from President William Ruto and other prominent leaders, further amplifying its visibility.
Despite organisers hailing it as a success, the aftermath told a different story;
Mosiria emerged as one of the loudest critics, accusing Obinna and his team of orchestrating the fight’s outcome.
In a series of remarks, he described the bout as a “scheme to con innocent Kenyans,” alleging it had been scripted to favour Majembe and create room for lucrative rematches.
He even claimed he had predicted the result before the fight began, saying he skipped attending because he already knew how it would unfold.
He went further to brand the event a “mchezo wa taon” — implying it resembled a street-style trick rather than a legitimate sporting contest.
Mosiria also revealed he had been involved in Mbavu’s preparation, claiming he financed part of his training, secured both local and Dubai-based trainers, and facilitated accommodation—before allegedly being pushed out under unclear circumstances.
In response Obinna strongly dismissed the allegations, accusing Mosiria of chasing clout and attempting to undermine what he described as a positive initiative for Kenyan youth and boxing.
“Sometimes before you blubber, can you stop and think. It’s not illegal to think, and tell the people the truth that you begged me for a ticket and I declined because I know you are a time waster and you're a clout chaser,” Obinna hit back.
He maintained that the event was legitimate and beneficial, insisting Mosiria was merely reacting from the sidelines.
Tensions escalated further when Obinna issued a direct warning:
“Stop just being a hater, I will look for and beat you, bro, and I won’t take this lightly. Don’t bring me your BS, I will beat you,” he threatened.
In response to Obinna’s remarks, Mosiria publicly challenged him to step into the ring and settle the matter physically. Speaking to bloggers, he expressed confidence that he would easily defeat the promoter.
“Kama unataka kupigana na mimi tupatane kwa ring… I don’t buy fear,” Mosiria declared, doubling down on his challenge.
His remarks have since gone viral, sparking intense debate among Kenyans, with many now speculating whether the rivalry could turn into an organised boxing event.
Online reactions have been sharply divided, with some fans dismissing the feud as clout-chasing while others are already placing hypothetical bets on a potential Mosiria-Obinna showdown.
However, Obinna has not publicly accepted the boxing challenge.
For now it remains to be seen on whether the feud ends in reconciliation—or a sanctioned fight.
