MPESA,CALLS, INTERNET DISRUPTED AS SAFARICOM SUFFERS NATIONWIDE OUTAGE

Safaricom subscribers across Kenya were left stranded after a major network outage disrupted M-PESA, voice calls, and internet services for more than 12 hours.
The disruption, which began late Wednesday September 10, 2025, night, left many users unable to make or receive calls, access mobile money, or connect to the internet. Some customers reported their lines showing “emergency calls only” or being “not registered on the network.”
Safaricom confirmed the outage, apologising to its subscribers and assuring them that engineers were working to restore services. The company acknowledged interruptions in areas including Namanga, Kajiado, Machakos, Kitui, and along Mombasa Road, though complaints poured in from across the country, suggesting a nationwide impact.
“We are experiencing network challenges that have affected voice, data, and M-PESA services. Our technical teams are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible,” Safaricom said in a statement.
The cause of the fault has not yet been disclosed, though past outages have been linked to cable faults and disruptions to Safaricom’s core infrastructure.
The outage has disrupted businesses and daily transactions in a country where M-PESA is central to commerce and communication. Safaricom has urged customers to expect intermittent services as repairs continue.
