NAIROBI COUNTY ANNOUNCES FRESH CRACKDOWN ON HOTELS, BUSINESSES IN CBD

Nairobi County has announced a fresh crackdown on all hotels and businesses operating within the Central Business District (CBD) as part of efforts to curb illegal waste disposal.
Chief Environmental Officer Geoffrey Mosiria said he will personally lead inspections across establishments that generate large amounts of waste, with a focus on how they manage and dispose of it.
“I will be leading an operation in the CBD to inspect all hotels and other establishments that generate waste, focusing on how they manage and dispose of it,” Mosiria stated.
According to the county, some businesses have been evading official waste collection fees by paying informal, unlicensed agents—including street families—to dump garbage illegally, worsening unsanitary conditions in the city.
Mosiria warned that any business found to be bypassing county waste collection services or failing to use licensed private providers will face legal action. He added that garbage found in the CBD would be traced back to its source, and violators will be held accountable.
The operation is part of a broader campaign to eliminate illegal dumping and restore cleanliness within Nairobi’s CBD.
