The Nairobi Hospital has suspended the implementation of its newly announced price review following mounting uproar from the insurance sector and patients.
The decision comes after eight major insurers — Madison Insurance, First Assurance, Minet, Old Mutual, Britam, AAR, CIC, and Pacis Insurance — announced they were halting medical cover at the facility over what they termed as “sharp and unjustified” increases in treatment costs.
In a statement on Monday August 11, 2025, the hospital said the suspension was aimed at creating room for further talks.
“This decision responds to requests from our valued insurance partners to allow for further consultation and collaborative dialogue,” the hospital noted.
The contested price review, which saw some charges rise by up to 61 per cent, had sparked public outrage and fears of reduced access to healthcare for insured patients.
The hospital has invited insurance firms to a consultative forum to address concerns and work towards what it called “a sustainable agreement that balances quality care and affordability.”
