NPS LISTS MAJOR ROADS CLOSED AHEAD OF HARAMBEE STARS' QUATERFINAL MATCH AGAINST MADAGASCAR AT KASARANI STADIUM

The National Police Service (NPS) has issued a notice on temporary traffic disruption in Nairobi due to the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 tournament. In a statement on Thursday, August 21 2025, NPS informed the public of temporary road closures and traffic diversions in Nairobi on Friday.
Motorists from Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) heading to Thika Road (Ruiru/Juja/Thika) should use Kiambu Road at Exit 4, as there will be a roadblock at Muthaiga. On the other hand, vehicles using the Thika Superhighway heading to Mwiki should use Ruaka-Baba Dogo-Lucky Summer-Nairobi River-Mwiki.
NPS also said that vehicles from Thika, Juja, and Ruiru heading to Nairobi CBD should use Northern Bypass or Kiambu Road, as there will be a roadblock at Ruiru Interchange. In addition, vehicles from Githurai to Nairobi CBD should use Githurai 44-Kiambu Road, while vehicles from Nairobi CBD heading to the Moi International Sports Centre (MISC), Kasarani Stadium (without vehicle access passes) should use the Service Lane at Exit 7 and Exit 8.
“The National Police Service continues to work collaboratively with relevant agencies and urges all motorists to cooperate with officers on-site to ensure smooth traffic flow. Additional police officers have been deployed and will take stern action against anyone violating traffic rules,” reads part of the statement.
The statement comes ahead of Kenya’s highly anticipated CHAN 2024 quarterfinal match at MISC Kasarani on Friday against Madagascar.
