ORWOBA CALLS OUT CS TUYA, SHOLLEI OVER ARREST OF MP JAYNE KIHARA

Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has strongly criticized Environment Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya and National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Shollei over the dramatic arrest of Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara.
In a statement, Orwoba questioned the silence of the two leaders, both of whom are prominent women in Kenya’s leadership, accusing them of failing to defend Kihara's dignity amid what she termed as “state intimidation and humiliation.”
“Where are the so-called defenders of women when one of their own is being manhandled like a criminal?” Orwoba posed. “CS Tuya and Hon. Shollei have gone mute when women leaders are under siege.”
Kihara was earlier whisked away in a green Subaru by unidentified officers to an undisclosed location, raising public concern. She was initially expected to be held at the Milimani police station, but sources say that did not happen.
Orwoba said the incident reflects a dangerous trend of political suppression, especially targeting vocal women in leadership.
“We must not allow this culture of fear and selective arrests to take root,” she added.
The reason for Kihara’s arrest remains unclear, and police are yet to issue an official statement.
