POLICE ACCUSED OF KILLING ANOTHER YOUTH DAYS AFTER RUTO’S COMPENSATION ORDER

The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) has accused police of fatally shooting a 30-year-old man, just days after President William Ruto announced a compensation plan for victims of police brutality.
According to KHRC, the incident occurred on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, when police officers, accompanied by a G4S guard, opened fire on residents protesting the earlier killing of another youth. Stephen Marubu was shot in the chest at Del Monte’s Pineapple Field No. 19, near Kakuzi Road, and died on the spot.
The shooting sparked outrage among locals and human rights groups, who condemned the continued use of excessive force despite the government’s recent pledge to address past abuses.
President Ruto had unveiled the compensation framework on August 8, 2025, promising financial reparations to families of those killed or injured during protests. Rights activists, however, say the latest killing raises questions about the government’s commitment to ending police brutality and ensuring accountability.
Police are yet to comment on the incident.
