Riandira Police Post in Mwea-West, Kirinyaga County, has been closed due to unsettled rent arrears. This was as a result of a Ksh. 2 million debt.
Rashid Ali ,Mwea-West Subcounty Police Commander confirmed the closure of the station, which had operated the for eight years. Despite this closure, he reassured the worried locals that security measures would remain solid.
The matter arose from a house provided by the late businessman Mwangi Thuita, who passed away in 2018. His daughter, Irene Njeri, explained that the officers were advised to begin paying rent after Thuita's death, but the arrears have now piled up to a sum of Ksh. 2 million.
Njeri attested that; “Before my father passed away, he told the officers to start paying rent from 2018. The arrears have now exceeded Ksh. 2 million, which is why we decided to reclaim the property and rent it out to others."
However, Commander Ali assured the residents that the Rukanga police post, four kilometers away, would serve them temporarily.
