Popular Akorino bishop Johana Gacheni has passed away. The heartbreaking news was shared on Wednesday, July 16 2025 by gospel singer and philanthropist Karangu Muraya, a devoted member of the Akorino faith.
Gaceni was best known for his gospel song “Joshua Akirugama Akihita”, which became a household hit among Kikuyu-speaking Christians. The song carried a message of faith, victory, and perseverance. He founded the Christian Committed Gospel Church, where he served for more than two decades. His ministry was active in Murang’a, Kirinyaga, and Nakuru counties.
President William Ruto led the nation in paying tribute to the late bishop. In a statement, the Head of State described Gaceni as a man of deep faith and strong Biblical grounding. “May God grant the family and friends strength to bear with the loss of Bishop Johana Gaceni,” Ruto said.
“His teachings were spiritually nourishing, and he immaculately interpreted Biblical scripture for the congregation.”
The President ended his tribute with a verse from the book of Job. “Be comforted by the word of the Lord in Job 5:11: ‘The lowly he sets on high, and those who mourn are lifted to safety.’ Rest In Peace, Man of God!”
