PRESIDENT RUTO ATTENDS UN FOOD SYSTEMS SUMMIT IN ETHIOPIA

President William Ruto arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on the evening of Sunday July 27, 2025, to participate in the Second United Nations Food Systems Summit Stocktake. Upon landing at Bole International Airport, he was welcomed by Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Temesgen Tiruneh. During the summit, President William Ruto is set to deliver Kenya’s national statement, reiterating the country’s dedication to reshaping food systems to promote sustainable development and strengthen climate resilience.

 Earlier ahead of the summit, President Ruto met with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed at the National Palace, as announced in a statement on X. He emphasized the strong, long standing relationship between Kenya and Ethiopia, rooted in friendship and diplomatic solidarity. “This enduring partnership, built on mutual respect and cooperation, has fostered stability and collaboration across the Horn of Africa,” President Ruto stated. He further highlighted that the close ties between the two nations are reinforced by the Special Status Agreement signed in 2012, which serves as a foundation for deeper collaboration in infrastructure, energy, trade, investment, and regional integration.

On the sidelines of the summit, President Ruto is expected to hold bilateral discussions with other leaders, including Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and African Union Commission Chairperson Mohamoud Ali Youssouf, among others. This trip makes it his second international trip in the space of one month, following his overtures to Seville in Spain and London, England, late last month.
