Veteran Kenyan rapper Jackson Ngechu Makini, alias Prezzo, has resurfaced making a passionate appeal to young people across the country, urging them to register as voters and take charge of Kenya’s future– just three months after hinting at vying for the presidency.
Speaking on his Instagram on 16, July, the hip hop star called upon Kenyans to edit the direction and the leadership Kenya should assume.
"Kenya yetu inaelekea mwelekeo gani ama sisi kama Wakenya tunaelekeza nchi yetu mwelekeo gani?" he posed.
"Sisi kama wazalendo ni majukumu yetu kuelekeza nchi yetu mwelekeo unaofaa. Ikifika wakati wa kampeni, viongozi wetu watatupa ahadi ambazo ni ahadi tasa... mnatupa ahadi, viongozi lakini hakuna hata siku moja mtu ameridhika na kazi yenu.” he added expressing a gross dissatisfaction with the underperformed promises by elected leaders.
In the same breath, Prezzo advised the young generation - which technically accommodates 75% of the Kenyan population - to arise and register as voters so as to directly influence the leadership direction of the country.
"Vijana tuungane pamoja tuhakikishe ya kwamba nchi yetu tunaiweka kwa mwelekeo mzuri. Na hatua ya kwanza ni kuhakikisha umejiandikisha kama mpiga kura. Hakikisha kwamba sauti yako itasikika na hakikisha kwamba wewe ni mzalendo,” he said.
He further used an old adage to base that leaders should be voted based on a track record of performance and the leaders known for 'biting' Kenyans should be ' shyed away' from.
“The power of the people is greater than the power of the government. Let’s harness our collective voices and vote for leaders who’ll serve us, na sio viongozi wa kutu obtain daily. Once bitten, twice shy,” he added.
This passion trickles down back to March 23, 2025, on an interview with SPM buzz, where he confirmed that he had launched his own political outfit dubbed Chama Mabadiliko Busara (CMB)—a party he says is rooted in the struggles of ordinary Kenyans and will represent both urban and rural communities.
"Yes, in 2027, God willing, we shall leave everything in His hands. But you know, He also commands us to help ourselves first. So, I took the initiative and formally registered my own political party,” Prezzo said.
He described himself as the chairman of the party, which bears a striking emblem: two hands bound in handcuffs, with the chain breaking apart.
"The symbolism behind this is that although shackles exist, there is an ongoing struggle for liberation."
Prezzo also pointed to the recent Gen Z-led protests as evidence that Kenyans are ready to reject outdated political divisions.
"For instance, the Gen Z protests have shown us that they’ve shattered the barriers of tribalism. That’s exactly what this party stands for—unity, truth, and real change,” he concluded.
