REGGAE FRATERNITY SHATTERED AS MC FULLSTOP DIES AFTER YEARS OF FIGHTING TB

Renowned reggae hypeman and media personality John Maina, popularly known as MC Fullstop, has died after a long struggle with tuberculosis.

The celebrated entertainer passed away on the evening of Friday, August 1, 2025, while receiving treatment in Nairobi, bringing an end to a vibrant career that spanned more than three decades.

MC Fullstop had been battling health complications since 2021, when he was diagnosed with tuberculosis. The infection led to the complete collapse of his left lung. In 2022, his condition worsened when TB affected his throat, making it difficult for him to speak, walk, or perform.

Despite undergoing treatment and receiving overwhelming support from fans and fellow artists, his health steadily deteriorated. He had earlier announced his retirement from the entertainment scene, saying he was adjusting to life with one functioning lung.

MC Fullstop began his career in the early 1990s and rose to become one of the most recognisable voices in Kenya’s reggae and dancehall scene. His lively mixes and signature shout-outs dominated clubs, concerts, and airwaves through the 2000s.

He later transitioned into media, co-hosting popular reggae shows such as Riddim Vybz on K24 TV and Reggae Boyz on NRG Radio, further cementing his legacy in Kenyan entertainment.

News of his death has triggered an outpouring of grief across the country.

"We’ve lost a true Kenyan legend. MC Fullstop gave reggae a face and a voice in this country," said radio host Maina Kageni.

Media personality Azeezah Hashim added, "RIP to the greatest MC Kenya has ever seen. The mic will never sound the same without him."

ODM Communications Director Phillip Etale mourned, "RIP MC Fullstop, the microphone maestro. His energy, his vibe, his voice we shall really miss you."

Fans also took to social media to share memories and tributes, describing him as a unifying force in the reggae community and a symbol of resilience in the face of illness.

MC Fullstop’s contribution to Kenya’s music and media scene will be remembered for generations. Plans for his burial are expected to be announced by his family in the coming days.
