REUBEN KIGAME DECLARES 2027 PRESIDENTIAL BID, VOWS TO OFFER ALTERNATIVE LEADERSHIP

Renowned gospel singer and political activist Reuben Kigame has officially declared his intention to contest for Kenya’s presidency in the 2027 general election, marking a renewed attempt to enter the country’s top leadership seat.
Speaking during an interview on NTV’s Fixing the Nation, Kigame said his decision to vie is not a mere ambition but a carefully laid-out plan.
“I’m not hoping, I’m planning to be on the ballot in 2027… two years is good enough to roll it out,” he said.
Kigame, who was barred from running in 2022 after failing to meet signature requirements set by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), said the disqualification only delayed, but did not derail, his presidential journey.
A respected voice in faith and civic circles, Kigame has consistently criticized the political class for what he describes as poor governance and a lack of moral integrity. His campaign, which began taking shape as early as 2023, seeks to present Kenyans with a value-based alternative to the dominant political coalitions — Kenya Kwanza and Azimio la Umoja.
Now serving as Deputy Party Leader of the Justice and Freedom Party (JFP), Kigame is championing a campaign anchored on character, truth, service, and justice. His platform emphasizes inclusive leadership, youth involvement, and devolution of power.
“Leadership should be about the people, not power games. We need a new model of governance driven by values and integrity,” he added.
Kigame’s early announcement is part of a wider effort to galvanize grassroots support and encourage voter registration, particularly among youth and first-time voters. He has also launched a civic education initiative and a mentorship program targeting Gen Z leaders.
His 2027 campaign will be guided by a detailed 24-point manifesto addressing key areas such as healthcare, education, equity, anti-corruption, disability inclusion, and economic justice.
Kigame also holds a PhD in World Christianity, with a focus on music and social justice, positioning him as a unique blend of scholar, activist, and servant leader.
