RUTO DECLARES AUGUST 27 KATIBA DAY

President William Ruto has officially declared August 27 as Katiba Day, a new annual observance to commemorate the promulgation of Kenya’s 2010 Constitution.
In a statement on Monday August 25, 2025, Ruto said “27th August 2025, and every 27th day in the month of August forever thereafter, shall be observed as ‘Katiba Day’.”
The President explained that Katiba Day will be marked across the country in schools, government institutions, county governments, and Kenya’s foreign missions. Although it will remain a working day, institutions will be expected to organize civic activities to promote constitutional awareness and public engagement.
Katiba Day coincides with the historic moment on August 27, 2010, when then-President Mwai Kibaki signed into law the new Constitution, ushering in sweeping governance reforms.
This year’s inaugural celebration will also mark the 15th anniversary of the 2010 Constitution, which introduced devolution, a bill of rights, and new structures of governance.
