RUTO-MUSEVENI COALITION

UDA led by President William Ruto and National Resistance Movement ( NRM) led by Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni , have entered into a political merger to foster regional development.

The newly formed UDA-NRM pact has been founded based on common interests from both the party leaders and members, with the pillars being regional peace, democracy and stability.

The duo have factored in unity as a means of tackling insecurity, breaking trade restrictions and fast tracking infrastructure development.

Through the umbrella of the EAC, President Ruto and his Uganda counterpart, Museveni, have sought to bolster economic development through resource mobilization and combat militant attacks through combinations of the intelligence forces.

While acknowledging the benefits that accrue to both countries, analysts have also speculated potential political influence. President Museveni has allegedly been viewed as an anti-democrat , following his strong policies that have seen him in power for almost four decades, on the other hand , Kenyans do believe in democracy and anti- governmental activism.

Questions still remain on how these two factions will harmonize their political disparities and the position of the opposition in the alliance.

However, the coalition looks forward to improving Kenya and Uganda alongside other East African States.
