RUTO ORDERS CLOSURE OF HOSPITALS OVER SHA FRAUD,DEMANDS REFUNDS

President William Ruto has ordered the immediate closure of hospitals implicated in defrauding the Social Health Authority (SHA), insisting that the facilities must refund the money they illegally received.
Ruto revealed that nearly 1,000 health facilities have already been shut down after investigations unearthed massive fraud involving ghost hospitals, fake patients, and inflated medical claims. He warned that those involved would not only be compelled to return the stolen funds but also face prosecution.
“We will not tolerate corruption in healthcare. Any hospital or officer found stealing from Kenyans through SHA will be closed, and the money recovered,” Ruto said.
The president credited the digitization of the Social Health Authority system for exposing fraudulent claims that had plagued the sector for years. He noted that the previous National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) had been crippled by debts of more than KSh30 billion due to similar schemes.
Ruto assured Kenyans that the government remains committed to safeguarding public resources while ensuring that patients continue to access quality and affordable healthcare.
