RWANDAN GOVERNMENT GRANTS CITIZENS 5-DAY HOLIDAY TO MARK INDEPENDENCE DAY AND LIBERATION DAY

Rwandans are set to enjoy an extended five-day holiday after the government officially declared additional days off to mark the country’s Independence and Liberation Day celebrations .In a public notice issued by the Ministry of Public Service and Labour, the government announced that Tuesday, July 1, and Friday, July 4, will be observed as public holidays in honour of Rwanda’s Independence Day and Liberation Day, respectively.
However, in a rare move, authorities also granted Wednesday, July 2, and Thursday, July 3, as additional public holidays, effectively giving the country a continuous break from Tuesday through Sunday.
The Paul Kagame-led government declared that normal operations in the country would resume on Monday, July 7.
"The Ministry of Public Service and Labour informs the public that the following dates will be observed as public holidays: Tuesday, July 1, 2025 - Independence Day, Friday, July 4, 2025 - Liberation Day. The Ministry takes this opportunity to also inform the public that the Government has granted public holidays on the following dates: Wednesday, July 2, 2025 and Thursday, July 3, 2025. Official work will resume on Monday, July 7, 2025," read the announcement in part.
The government noted that critical services such as hospitals, emergency response units, and security agencies would remain operational to ensure continuity.
