Safaricom has announced the full restoration of M-Pesa services following a nationwide outage caused by a scheduled system upgrade early Monday September 22, 2025, morning.
In a statement, the telecommunications company said the maintenance exercise—carried out between 12:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. on September 22—temporarily disrupted all M-Pesa services, including money transfers, deposits, withdrawals, Lipa na M-Pesa payments, and airtime purchases.
The company confirmed that the upgrade, part of its new Fintech 2.0 platform, was successfully completed. The next-generation system is designed to boost transaction speeds, improve reliability, and enhance the platform’s ability to handle growing demand.
Safaricom assured customers that all services are now fully operational nationwide.
