Sarah Wairimu Denied Bond

The Kibera High Court has denied Sarah Wairimu bond after the prosecution opposed her release, remanding her at Lang'ata Women's Prison until two crucial witnesses testify in a case where she is charged with the murder of her husband Tob Cohen.
In a ruling made by Justice Diana Kavedza, the court must safeguard the integrity of the trial by protecting witnesses and preventing potential interference.
"In the circumstances, I decline the accused's application for bail. The accused shall remain in custody until after the two witnesses have testified," she said.
Wairimu has the option of revisiting her bail application once the witnesses have testified. The court in denying her bail, Justice Kavedza said the submission made by the DPP that she is likely to intimidate or interfere with the witnesses has been proved with sufficient evidence.
"Moreover, this is a case of public interest where life was lost in the most heinous manner," said the Judge.
Wairimu was re-arrested after the DPP, Renson Ingonga, reviewed the murder case and determined that there was sufficient evidence to charge her with murder.The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant DPP Vincent Monda, Senior Assistant DPP Gikui Gichuhi, Assistant DPP Sarah Ogweno, PC Peris Maina, and PC Livia Gachanja.
The matter will be mentioned on 26th February 2025 for pre-trial directions.
